Mpho

Mpho’s career as a singer started in church as a young child and her interest grew in terms of music and dance by joining Intsikane Marimba Band in 1983.They played and performed in and around Cape Town, where she was sported by now defuncked Peto with Ringo Madlingozi and they won the shell road to fame in 1986 and that made the group to relocate and settle in Johannesburg.

In Johannesburg she met lots of Artists and Musicians some of whom she ended up working with, the likes of Coyote, Pongolo and the late Jito Baloyi, and Thembi Mtshali.

In 1990 Mpho decided to hit the road and come back home to Cape Town. At home she started working with local Bands like Tshisa Band, Ilanga Band with Mlungisi Gegana and Thandanani Band led by Blackie Tempie.
In 1993 she met David Shuping who is a pianist and Band Leader and they teamed up together to form their own project called Mpho and Friends which had only three members. We felt that the project needed more sounds and our vision was to have a sound that is unique and had a reach texture of our own traditional and as well as afro fusion elements in it, hence the name Mpho and Uvimba
